Cat scratching the air purifier

My cat keeps scratching at one side of its neck and now it has a big wound there.

I don’t know why it is doing it, as there are no fleas to be found, but I need to fix it or the cat may have some issues soon.

I guess I need to get those nail covers for the cat, but putting them on the cat may be a fruitless venture. I don’t know if the cat will let me put these little plastic caps on its claws or not, but I need to stop it from clawing. The local business could maybe help me with this problem, as I was in there two weeks ago doing some ductwork repairs and the owner told me they help a lot of cats with this problem. I guess I could try putting a big collar around the cat’s neck so it can’t scratch itself anymore, but I don’t think it is going to be happy with that either. The HVAC store is open today and I am going to try and get a new HEPA filter for the air purifier. The old one is shot because the cat was using it as a scratching post each day. Now the old filter is shredded beyond repair and I need to buy a new one to replace it. I just have a scratchy cat that likes to scratch at everything it can, including its own neck. I guess I could ask the local contractor, who has a few cats of her own, what the best solution is for this dilemma.
